Takeaway Web Design - Chams
Chams is a traditional Fish and Chip shop (Chippy) in the north of Liverpool in Merseyside, they have a regular clientelle, but as with any takeaway business they are always looking to increase their market share and find ways to ensure retention of their current business.
The owner of Chams (John Cham), was looking for a way to widen the appeal and good name of Chams, throughout Liverpool, and approached Webcreationz to see if a website could help him achieve this.
After extensive discussions, John decided that he initially wanted a 7 page site which would include the following pages, Homepage, Where are We, Our Menu, Feedback, Links and About China.
As trade from a takeaway shop is largely an impulse experience, it was decided to keep text on the homepage to a minimum a let pictures of the food do the talking.
The 'Where Are We' page simply provides address and opening times information.
The 'Our Menu' page displays the shops menu with latest prices. To enable John to update this on a regular basis, rather than using a online database driven solution it was decided to provide an interface to an Excel spreadsheet which he currently uses for production of his printed menu. We provided a mechanism whereby John could take a text extract from the spreadsheet, upload it to the site, and this would automatically refresh the menu page.
The 'Feedback' page is a simple form which allows feedback and comments to be sent back to John's personal email address.
The 'Links' page is again a textual data driven page which provides a number of links to interesting sources, and also provides the mechanism to display affiliate advertising in a simple and easily updateable manner. For this page, John is able to add, update and delete links easily from an admin screen we provided.
The 'About China' is a growing resource which lists texts and information on China. At the moment only one sub-page has been added to this section 'Sun Tzu - THe Art of War'.
John was keen to minimise costs and initially decided not to have a dedicated domain name, but now with the reduced costs of domain registration, he is now considering purchasing a domain name in the near future.
For the future John is looking into expanding the 'About China' section of the website to include more Chinese texts, and information about modern China and Hong Kong and the history of Liverpool Chinatown. He is currently collating this information, and we will be adding to the site as soon as it is available.
Testimonial
Chris from Webcreationz provided me with a great web-site. He was always happy to listen to my ideas and learn about my business and customers so to make me a better web-site.
The whole site took less than four weeks to make from start to finish and Webcreationz are always avaiable to answer my questions even now the site is on the net.
And they never grumbled when I changed my mind over colours and design and they spent more time than they should have to help me understand how to update my menu and prices on the web-site.
The site itself has been the subject of many conversations in the shop and I am sure has brought in many new customers and the posters Webcreationz did always get good comments.
I would reccomend Webcreationz to anyone wanting a web-site for their business.
Price
As an indication of price, at current prices a similar site to Chams Fish and Chips would cost approximately £1000.
